¿What is Free Zone? Definition The concept of a Free Zone is basically associated with a physical place where tax and tariff right exempted merchandise is negotiated. However to better understand its operational system we must have some knowledge of some basic concepts. A free zone is defined as an area or a boundary territory near a port or airport, protected under presumption of an extra territorial customs officer . These are the locations where the merchandise can be deposited, transformed terminated or commercialized without any restrictions. Iquique's Free Zone is located in the northern part of Iquique with an area of 240 hectares.
